What is the most important ingredient in starting a fitness program?
It all starts with Personal Commitment
The ability to see your goal through.
Beginning in the sixties a woman who pursued fitness had to make a commitment to herself in most cases. Men had coaches then, and for the most part belonged in teams which kept them in their sport for a long time. Currently for women especially, there are other types of commitments; each with several advantages of keeping oneself in the fitness game for a lifetime. In order of occurrence, below are the levels of making a commitment.

Currently for women especially, there are other types of commitments; each with several advantages of keeping oneself in the fitness game for a lifetime. In order of occurrence, below are the levels of making a commitment.
Commitment-on your own, a most challenging kind since you must call on your inner natural resources of self-discipline, will power, perseverance, tenacity, continual goal setting –all affective characteristics found in effective people such as yourselves.
Commitment-with a partner, a bit less daunting since you can hire a personal trainer, a coach, or a more experienced friend who shares the same athletic goal so hold you accountable to show up; the partner can then make you a schedule, guide you physiologically, and be there for you when your workout begins
Commitment – to a group; be it a running club, a triathlon club, a group who works out weekly …is the best; here again you are held accountable, plus working out with others on a weekly basis brings more fun into the workout. The number one reason why folks join a fitness group is to lose weight; the number one reason they stay in a group is because of the camaraderie. Girl/guy talk produces endorphins and serotonin.
Implement all 3 types of commitments and you will be successful in establishing a fit lifestyle in the sport you enjoy.
