                                          Walk to Run© Coaching Certification Course


Take…The  First Step owner, Lynn Gray, offers experienced runners who desire to teach
others the major tenets of running.  The weekend workshop prepares those with the skills, workouts, and key concepts of basic walk to run training. Those participating will include all those who have a love of running, enjoy mentoring others, and respect the proper training methods needed to help others run successfully.

Program goals:
·        
Provide a baseline of training steps to teach beginner runners who desire distance running
·        
Provide a structured program for individuals seeking to become experts in walk to run training
·        
Provide continuing education opportunities and requirements to insure quality of training and validity of knowledge
·        
Provide a code of ethics and legal protection such that overlapping of trainers and trainees does not occur
·        
Provide a charity, a “cause” which will make the training process more meaningful. (Miles for Moffitt, Inc.)

Who should take this course?

This training program is ideal for those who are established runners, running store employees, race directors, corporate human relations wellness leaders,
·        
For those who want a lucrative career in training others for pinnacle events already formed, or fitness events which you form; Timeline:   8 week training course descriptions and skills given for each group of participants you train
·        
For those who have small or large running entities and want those participants to have improved form,  technique, plyometric training, and other skills to help them become better runners
·        
For those track coaches who train elementary, middle and high school students

Completing the Take…The First Step Coaching Certification Course demonstrates that you, as the trainer, are aware of both established and new training techniques, nutrition for active folks, and have a genuine desire to see their walk to run
clients, friends, etc. succeed in the sport that is growing exponentially.


How the Program Works:

Each person will be interviewed by instructor, Lynn Gray to determine if this certification course matches their expectations.
·        
Each person will have to attend an in-person interactive training workshop for one weekend day to learn the principles of training, schedule making, and marketing yourself as a running coach
·        
Each person will be given a training manual which will guide them on training principles needed to teach the most basic of all participants-the walker as well as those already having a routine running background.
·        
Each person will be allowed to use the Take…The First Step Training Center with all supplies to help train their clients and agree to schedule a month in advance.
·        
Each person will be expected to have an updated CPR certification
·        
Each person will be expected to have their own personal liability insurance
·        
Each person will be expected to donate a % of their proceeds to MFM and encourage their clients to participate in the MFM race 


                                  What Does the Course Cover and what is the Cost?
·        
A weekend workshop teaching the basics of an aerobic based Walk to Run Program©. The 8 week program takes the experienced walker and introduces the basic components of an aerobic forward movement program.  The participants being taught will combine both a cardio walk (brisk walk) with jogging and/or running. The following fitness concepts are introduced

1. technique and form and exercises to develop proper leg and arm form plus foot strike
2. developing pacing via walk to run ratio training
3. methods of staying uninjured/complete agility exercise training with tools
4. heart rate and effort based training
5. nutrition for the active person/complete nutrition plan given w/journal and more
6. strength and resistance training specific for the walk to run movement
7. building a training program for participant’s current physical level up to their goal event

A Walk to Run© manual/curriculum which explains in detail the basics of how to teach each of the 8 lessons/skills above,  along with actual workouts pertinent to the skill being taught.
·        
A manual called, Conquering the Marathon, which aims at the beginner walker and seasoned runner as it applies to training for a Half or Whole Marathon (largest amount of possible clients out there)
 ·        
A training studio filled with the tools to train individuals for plyometrics (speed training), resistance training, agility training, plus cross country. The training studio has a private quarter mile area to practice all skills
·        
Downloadable articles which give the rationale for each of the 8 training principles mentioned above
·        
A certificate as a Take..The First Step©  Certified Beginner Running Coach Level 1
·        
The cost of the workshop is $200.00 which includes access to all 8 skills, two course textbook online and practicum test, and certificate of  completion.
·        
Certified Trainers will be listed on the Take…The First Step and Club website so people can verify certified trainers in the Tampa Bay
Community.
